Arak Du Marje 70CL

Arak Du Marje 70CL is made by Les Vignes du Marje, a family winery in Jdeidet Marjeyoun in the south of Lebanon. The winery was founded by Carole Khoury on the same land where her grandfather used to make arak, and the arak is distilled four times in traditional stills. It is a proper, home-style Lebanese arak with a lot of character.

What It Tastes Like

In the bottle it is completely clear; once you add water, it turns milky white, which is what a good arak should do. The smell is strong aniseed with a fresh herbal edge. On the palate it is clean and smooth, with sweet liquorice and a cooling finish that makes it very refreshing with food.

The 70CL bottle is the size we would take to a long lunch or a family dinner. The usual way to drink it is one part arak to two parts cold water, then ice added last; if you put the ice in first, the arak can form a skin on top.
